South Africa Day 1

Leeman on Paul's balcony

Although this entry is not in "Real Time" I kept a journal and photographed our whole trip, so I am going to attempt to document our time in South Africa after the fact.

Day 1 was a day of travel that safely got us from Atlanta, GA to Johannesburg, SA after about 20 hours. We had one stop in Dakar, Senegal for about an hour where we weren't allowed to get off the plane, but it was nice knowing we were half way there. We arrived at 4pm SA time, retrieved our bags, went through customs (yeah another passport stamp!!), and found a place to wait for our ride. Leeman has a friend who lives in Johannesburg, and despite not talking for 5-6 years, happily offered us a ride and place to crash for the night. Paul was super cool and after a little confusion about what kind of car he was driving (a white volkswagen polo) and what leeman believed to be a description of what he was wearing we found each other. He took us to his flat so we could drop off our things off before dinner. He took us to a nice italian restaurant in one of many plaza's named after nelson mendela. We had great conversation, but an early morning so we headed back to his place and called it a night. He arranged a ride to the airport for us in the morning because we are headed to Capetown to meet up with the rest of the family.
